Dubai: A short cameo from Andre Russell’s helped Multan Sultans to inflict first defeat of the season on reigning champions Islamabad United in a low-scoring match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 here at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Sultans won the toss and elected to field first. Ronchi cruised to fifty in usual fashion but Sultans’ bowlers bounced back with couple of quick wickets. In the allotted 20 overs of United’s innings, Afridi and Shafiq restricted the opposition to just 125 runs.
Sultans also started miserably as they lost first wicket on third ball of their innings. United’s bowlers kept run rate under control by picking key wickets in regular intervals.
Just when things started to look good for United, Russell unleashed some fierce hitting. He scored 16 runs on just seven balls and brought the required run rate down drastically.
